This week we are heading to a very fast track at the Michigan International Speedway which Drivers and Fans alike just love. The Chase is quickly approaching and the Teams are scrambling for Wins and that means the racing will be tough. This week we have the Pure Michigan 400 and the VFW 200 to look forward to and where is MIS? Brooklyn NY is the answer and it should be perfect weather for some fast racing.
The track was finished in 1968 and NASCAR raced on it in 1969 that I’ll tell you about shortly. It’s a 2 mile D- Shaped Oval with nice high 18 degree Banking in both Turns. The Front Stretch is a whipping 12 degrees and the back is still a nice 5 degrees. You’ll be watching them whip by you with exactly and I mean exactly 137,243 of the best NASCAR Fans around the Country.
The Track History runs deep and has some characters whos names are known and unknown. The Track was designed by Charles Moneypenny who I’ll have you know designed Daytona International Speedway. How cool is that?! In the very first NASCAR Race at MIS Cale beat his brother LeeRoy on June 15th 1969. Roger Penske bought the Track on the Courthouse steps for I hear just 2 Million and he made most of the big improvements the Fans see today.
A special formulated polymer-enhanced asphalt for High Banking was used for the first time when MIS was resurfaced this last time too. Kevin Harvick won this race last year in the Carfax 400 and he did it with good Qualifying. Which brings us to how to win this race is starting up front. You have to Qualify well here to win folks. Here’s what I mean. 61% of the Race Winners started in the Top 5 and 78% from the Top 10.
Here’s a Track Fact for you all. Michigan is one of just four Tracks Jimmie Johnson has not won at that they race on today. Those Tracks include last week’s Watkins Glen, Chicagoland, Homestead and of course Michigan. You could add Rockingham that he raced on five times and never won at either.
Check out their website for more information and he’s what I checked out and got for you. Tickets are very affordable from as low as just $25 to $115 which I think is great. Camping seems right in line as well with Tent Camping Spaces for $130 and RV spots starting at $170 and spots with Electric for $300. If you really want to have fun get the Turn 2 spots with Water and Electric for $450. If you want to upgrade for sure get the Hospitality Package to get to do and go everywhere for a price of $179 or just get some Pit Road Cold Passes for $50.
The Racing should be great with these boys PERKING up and get in the Chase so look for a very fast day. Greg Biffle says MIS is a track where “things can just happen” as e talked about these up coming Tracks and races. Hey we see Kimi in our Perky Jerky Car starting in Bristol and I’ll be there too so start getting yer Bristol tickets too! Look for me as EmCee at the Sharpie Interactive Experience at Bristol Friday and Saturday Race Weekend too!
That’s my story and I’m sticking with it!
