Chasing the Monster Mile, Dover Fall 2011

Chasing the Monster Mile, Dover

This Chase sure is Smoking and I mean that in more ways then one. Tony Steward the driver of the #14 SHR car has won his 2nd straight Chase Race by winning at New Hampshire and this after a very long no winning drought. Congratulations to him and that whole team for getting through a crazy wet weekend and yet another fuel mileage race. Teams at the end wern't sure if they could make it or not and we saw Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin go for it only to come up a couple laps shy on fuel. Jimmie Johnson was another victim and this finish has left it at his lowest Chase Position ever. One wonders if he has already taken himself out or if that always powerful Hendricks #48 Team can pull off yet another Championship.

To do so Jimmie Johnson is coming to a Track he is very strong at and that is the Monster Mile or Dover International Speedway. Of active Drivers Jimmie Johnson has the most Wins there at 6 which really is just behind the All Time Race wins held in a Tie by Richard Petty and Bobby Allison with 7. So a Win here would put him in the Record Books and also give that Team a much needed shot in the arm. Let's take a look at the AAA 400 and Dover International Speedway as to what our Drivers are up against in this week's Track Facts.

Built in 1969 as Dover Downs International Speedway. "Downs" was removed in 2002 leaving Current Name Dover International Speedway.

David Pearson started the first Race off on the Pole at Dover in 1969 and Richard Petty went on to win it and to go on to Tie Allison for All Time Wins at 7. Many of those wins came before the Track was resurfaced to all Concrete in 1995 making it NASCAR's 1st All Concrete Super Speedway. Recently Jimmie Johnson had won at Dover last Fall while Kyle Busch had grabbed the Spring Race. Other Drivers that are pretty good at Dover and should be watched are Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin who both have 4 wins and Ryan Newman with 3 and with 2 victories himself at Dover Tony Stewart could make it 3 in a row. To do it Teams will have to Qualify well and 2/3 of the Winners have Started in the Top 5 and 13 from the Pole.

To learn more and get your Race Tickets go to WWW.DoverSpeedway.COM where I found out ticket prices were pretty fair at between $55 to $95 for Upper FrontSeats. They had some High End Seats behind glass and catered for $1,200 per person and the Sky Boxes for 10, 25 and 60 you had to call about. Check this out and Bravo to Dover for $10 Kids Under 14 Tickets in Turn 3. Wow a $10 NASCAR Ticket! As for Camping there is none on Track Property but available next door and withing close driving. Oh, if you are a big Corporation reading this and you want the best of the best then put yer name on the MONSTER BRIDGE Seats. Yes you can have your company name on the over the Track Bridge that now has 56 Theater Seats, 9 Flat Screens, a Full Bar just 29' directly over the Track where you can look into the Drivers eyes as they race towards you. I walked over that Bridge and it would be an awesome spot to watch a race for sure. Take me if you sponsor it for the idea tho folks! http://www.doverspeedway.com/monsterbridge/home

Have a great Race Week folks and Miles Here We Come!
peace
