Before we get into where the Season is headed let me this one time take a look back and what a week it was. Last week I had been invited down as a guest of Bubba Burgers the Official Burger of Richmond International Raceway for some fun and boy did we have some fun. The trip started out as most trips to the races with a fresh bag of PERKY JERKY and getting to RIR from my house is a [1] Bag drive. Once down there we jumped right in with the Fans to have some fun and watch what was one of the best races of the NASCAR Season. With the Chase to the Championship spots mostly filled in a few Drivers had to put it all out there. One was Denny Hamlin and he got caught up along with June Bug at the crash at just Lap 9 but finished very well securing his spot. And what’s with Paul Menard asking if the #29 and Harvick needed a Caution, being told to talk on a secure channel and then spinning just a few laps later to bring up a Caution? Is RCR starting their “do anything it takes to get Kevin a win” cheating? By the end of that Last Race to Make the Chase the field had been set leading us to Chicagoland. Thank You BUBBA BURGER for the kind hospitality towards my Wife and I you guys are 1st class all the way.
All that Hot air leads us into the Windy City of Chicago or just Southwest of there in Joliet to Chicagoland Speedway! This is the 1st Race in the Chase and I think it will be a very exciting GEICO 400 as these Drivers with the New Point System know now more important then ever how much each week is. Lets take a look at Chicagoland Speedway and see what we can learn and I call this part my Track Facts.
Chicagoland Speedway
Built; 2000
Track Type: 1.5 Mile D-Shaped Oval
Banking/Length:
18 Degree Turns
11 Degree Frontstretch is 2,400′ Long
5 Degree Backstretch is 1,700′ Long
The Track holds about 75,000 race fans in the Grandstands and about another 10,000 camping and watching from the Infield and this year they’ll be seeing them drive more more then $6,000,000+ in Prize money. Here is a little fact I learned and that is this Geico 400 when finished will have been actually 400.5 miles long. Always nice to get a little more then you paid for I guess. David Reutimen and the #00 won this race last year where it started off with the #1 of Jamie McMurry on the Pole. Chase Racer Kevin Harvick in the #29 holds bookend records of “Race Record” & “Worst Starting Spot to Win” with his victory in 2002 at 137mph from the 32nd spot. Qualifying is not as important here as it is at other Tracks. Kyle Busch has won from the Pole, as I said Harvick from 32nd and both Ryan Newman and Mark Martin have won from the 14th spot. You just need a fast car and be determined to make it to the front is some tough 2 wide racing.
Should be a great Race and Chicagoland is a awesome track to be at and see great NASCAR Racing and I should know I’ve been there. Take some time if you can to visit the windy City and surrounding areas and let me make a recommendation. Hit the local stores there for some Pit Crew Barbeque Products such as the BBQ Sauces and Rubs but even more so their Bloody Mary Mix which is to die for. Nothing better Race Morning then a Pit Crew Barbeque Bloody Mary and you can ask my friend NASCAR Legend Jeff Hammond and he’ll tell you the same thing. Check him and them out atWWW.PitCrewBarbeque.COM.
Have a great weekend Race Fans!
peace
mike
